The Challenge
The client wanted a feature rich social dating platform that goes beyond traditional swiping. They needed an app combining dating functionality with a TikTok style video feed where users can upload, watch, like, share, and comment on short videos. The app also required real time chat, audio and video calling, a follow system, and robust user privacy controls all built natively for Android with a scalable backend.
The Solution
I built Tik Dating Video as a native Android app using Java and XML for a smooth, platform optimized experience. The Laravel backend hosted on a VPS handles everything server side including the REST API, user profiles, matching algorithms, video uploads and storage, video feed management, follow and like systems, and content moderation. All video files are stored directly on the VPS for full control and fast delivery. Firebase is used specifically for authentication and push notifications. The app features a full screen vertical video feed with auto play, a smart matching system based on shared interests and preferences, real time text chat with typing indicators, secure audio and video calling using WebRTC, a social engagement layer with likes, comments, shares, and follows, and comprehensive privacy controls including account and data deletion.
The Result
Tik Dating Video launched on Google Play Store and successfully combined two popular app concepts into one seamless experience. Users can discover potential matches through both traditional profiles and engaging video content. The video feed drives higher engagement and more authentic connections compared to photo only dating apps. The real time chat and calling features help users build meaningful relationships, while the privacy controls give users full confidence in their data security.
