A production ready OTT streaming platform with live TV, VOD, and subscriptions
The Challenge
The client, a media and entertainment startup, wanted to launch their own OTT streaming platform to distribute original faith based and independent films. They had no existing tech infrastructure and needed a full streaming platform built from scratch for both iOS and Android. Budget was limited so they could not afford separate native development teams. They needed a reliable subscription system to generate revenue from day one, content protection to gate premium videos behind a paywall, and 24/7 live TV broadcasting capability alongside on demand content.
The Solution
I delivered a production ready, cross platform OTT streaming app built with Flutter using a scalable MVVM architecture and a premium cinematic dark blue UI. The single codebase enabled simultaneous iOS and Android deployment, cutting development time and cost in half. Supabase powers the backend with PostgreSQL for content management and zero server maintenance. Cloudflare Stream handles all video on demand delivery through HLS for buffer free global playback. RevenueCat manages the subscription system with monthly and yearly plans, restore purchases, and graceful billing state handling. I implemented a smart content gating strategy where free users can browse all content freely but the gate is placed at the point of playback, maximizing engagement and conversion. The app also features an offline first experience with cached entitlements, shimmer loading states, and auto refresh on reconnect.
The Result
B3G TV was successfully published on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store from a single codebase, saving approximately 50 percent in development cost compared to native. The subscription flow works seamlessly with Apple and Google native billing with zero crashes on subscription state transitions. The architecture is fully scalable and ready for upcoming features like user authentication, cross device sync, and an admin panel without any structural refactoring. The client now has a Netflix caliber streaming platform with smooth animations, responsive layouts, and a premium user experience.
